The curious history of one of Peachtree’s last surviving Victorian mansions. This web page shows only a small excerpt of our Wimbish research. The Atlanta Woman’s Club remained in that home until 1920 at which time they moved to The Wimbish House in Atlanta, Georgia. There is also a certain charm that surrounds the house that is often hard to come by, and we also loved the fact that it is a mansion surrounded by the skyscrapers of Downtown Atlanta. The Wimbish House provides a magical backdrop for the most momentous of occasions. History by the Decades [ edit ] The early 1900s was known as the Gilded Age and widespread economic growth pushed the U.S. ahead of Britain, especially through heavy industry like factories, railroads, and coal mining. In December 2001, the Atlanta Preservation Center purchased Atlanta\'s most significant and endangered house in Atlanta, the antebellum Lemuel P. Grant Mansion in the Grant Park Historic District. The Wimbish house, designed by W.T. The Wimbish House is a stately Atlanta landmark that was built in 1902 as a private residence, but then purchased by the Atlanta Women’s Club in 1919 and has served as an event venue ever since. Wimbish House Tour This tour will be presented by Club members dressed in fashions representative of the periods of the Club’s history since its founding in 1895. Downing and built in 1906, is one of the few remaining residential structures along what was once known as Atlanta’s fashionable “Mansion Row.” Formal reception rooms are flanked by tall archways and columns, and flow gracefully into the elegant dining room, sunroom and ballroom.
